(SPRING 2021) things we never said | Anonymous

Updated: Jan 20, 2022

there was a night

when we sat in your basement

my ear pressed to your heart

as it provided the conversation

your hand found mine

and I admired how they fit

perfectly

it was time to leave

but something was missing

I came back

to find you

rearranging the pillows

a meaningless task

while you waited for me

suddenly so close

each detail of an eyelash

a line on your cheek

magnifying the silence

until the words escaped your lips

that I longed to hear

the words I replay in my head

until the shape of the room fades

your face

dissolving

into scribbles

of white noise

filling the silence

with things we never said
